TLC For Pets This Winter

TLC For Pets This Winter

The cold chill of winter has arrived and whether you think it’s a nuisance or a fun time filled with opportunities for all kinds of adventures, one thing remains the same: winter is a time that our fur-kids (and their pet care providers) need a little extra TLC. Here’s a handy list from Homeward Bound to help you this winter:

Shovel/Clear A Path

For the safety of yourself, your pet sitter and your pets, we kindly ask that you have your driveway and porches cleared and salted when we come to care for your babies.

Watch Out For Cats & Cars

Parked cars attract cats (and small wildlife), who sometimes crawl up under the hood for warmth. Bang on your car’s hood to scare them away before starting your engine.

Protect Paws From Salt

The salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice can greatly irritate the pads of your pet’s feet. Wipe all paws with a damp towel before your pet licks them and irritates his/her mouth.

Avoid Poisoning

Antifreeze is a deadly poison, but it has a sweet taste that may attract your pet. Wipe up spills and keep antifreeze (and all household chemicals) out of reach.

Consider Helping The Helpless

If there are outdoor cats, either owned pets or community cats (ferals, who are scared of people, and strays, who are lost or abandoned pets) in your area, remember that they need protection from the elements as well as food and water.

Just having one of our professional pet sitters or dog walkers come in and spend quality time with your dog or is one of the best ways you can make his/her winter extra special!
