How To Get Involved In One Of Laconia's Biggest Dog Events

Do you have plans for February 17th through the 19th? If not, you’ll definitely want to check out one of Laconia’s biggest events of the year! That’s right, I’m talking about the 88th World Championship Dog Sled Derby. This annual community wide event is being held in memory of Keith F. Bryar II - a man who passed away at only 57 years of age in 2016. His life-long passion was dog sledding and racing. In this post, we’re going to give you the rundown of how to attend the event and make the most out of it!

Event Schedule

The event starts on Thursday, Friday 16th and ends on Sunday, February 19th. Another important detail to note is that all of the races will both start and finish at the corner of Parade Rd. and Old North Main St. If you’re unsure where this is, it’s directly across from Lakes Region Correction Facility. Now, let’s talk a little about what events will be held on each date.

On the website you can also see entry forms as well as a list of the event’s sponsors.

What If I Can’t Make It?

If you’re unable to make any of the event times - don’t worry! The events will be livestreamed online at LaconiaLocal.com. You can also tune into WEMJ AM 1470 or FM 107.3. You can also follow the Lakes Region Dog Sled Club on Facebook where they will surely be posting pictures and updates to the events.

How Else Can I Get Involved?

The event staff are still looking for volunteers! If you’re interested in donating your time you can contact Jim Lyman, the President/Trail Boss at (603) 524-4314 in the daytime or (603) 524-8560 in the evening.

And that’s about all there is to it! Again if you want further information, make sure you check out the website. There’s contact information for a number of the event organizers. You can also take a look at the Facebook page for the event (linked above).
